Aria Young is a multimedia journalist based in New York City. She earned a B.S. in Journalism and a B.A. in Media, Culture and Communications from New York University in 2023. Her audio story “What’s In A Name” was the Grand Prize Winner of the 2022 NPR College Student Podcast Challenge. Aria has received various scholarships from the United Nations Foundation, Spotify, NPR and The Deadline Club. Her audio work “Locals Call to Stop Chinatown Jail Plan” was the recipient of 2023 AAJA Student Excellence in Audio Storytelling Award. She has also been featured on NPR Morning Edition, Campaign U.S. Magazine, KQED Radio and South China Morning Post.
Aria is currently a Production Associate at ABC News Nightline and a freelance audio producer. She previously worked with Feet in 2 Worlds and NBC Nightly News. At NYU, Aria was the News Director of WNYU 89.1 FM Radio, where she hosted the flagship news program The Rundown and a comedy talk show What the New York?!. Aria was also a videographer for Washington Square News and the On-Campus Editor for NYU Local.
Born and raised in Shanghai, Aria moved to Pennsylvania at age 17. A storyteller at heart, Aria is drawn to narratives about immigration, identity and belonging.
